(Kol Oud Tof) Kol Oud Tof Trio

       Kol Oud Tof

Three musicians, three instruments, three native lands, three languages, gathering in Jerusalem to play the music of Morocco, which remembers Spain, which in turn yearns for Jerusalem.

Singer-composer Esti Kenan Ofri was born in Italy, studied dance and music in Israel and felt most intimate with the singing traditions of the Sephardic Jews. Her work Women in Longing for four traditional singers, oud, cello and percussion was commissioned for the opening of the International Congress for Jewish studies 2007. Armand Sabach was born in Morocco and moved to Israel where he studied at Hebrew University and directed an ensemble of Moroccan Jewish Music. Oren Fried is a drummer and percussionist who has worked with music styles from Latin and jazz to traditional ethnic, his particular emphasis has been on Jewish musical heritage and he collaborates with Esti Kenan Ofri and Armond Sabach as the Kol Oud Tof Trio.

Since 2000, the trio has performed worldwide and released two CDs—Gazelle and Haketia. George Robinson of The Jewish Week has written, "The result of the trio is a seamless and engaging collaboration that combines Hebrew liturgical poetry, Ladino and Arabic classical modes in a beautiful blend." Albert Suissa of Kol Ha-Ir commented, "the recordings have retained the heart and soul of this tradition and even enriched it. It has something of Jerusalem, its creativity, a refined atmosphere that breaks down old listening habits—all rare in new arrangements of classical oriental music… The music is simply superb.”
