"When young Colombians get together to party, they groove to the global sounds heard everywhere. Rap, dance, techno, rock, merengue hip-hop - it's all available. But no gathering is considered complete without the musical crown of Colombia's best-loved national sound. The ingredients: African rhythms and percussion, wild improvisations and German accordion. But it's named after the natives of the area called 'Valle', 'nato de Valle' and that becomes: VALLENATO.

In the old days the Vallenato musicians were troubadours wandering from village to town. But legend has it that the style was invented by a man known as 'Francisco el Hombre' - an accordion virtuoso who was challenged in a musical showdown by the Devil himself. The Devil was a great player, but Francisco was BETTER, and he made Satan disappear (with his accordion) in a cloud of smoke."
