Luis Di Matteo is a renowned player of the bandoneon, an instrument to similar to the accordion and an essential voice in Argentinean Tango music. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1934, Di Matteo learned the bandoneon from his father and received classical training at the Kollischer Conservatory. Di Matteo moved to Buenes Aires in the late 1950s and met legendary Tango composer Astor Piazolla, eventually performing with his orchestra in later years. A composer in his own right, Di Matteo writes and arranges music for various string ensembles. In 2002, he appeared at the Schleswig Holstein Musikfest in Germany, which cemented his success in Europe as a performer. Di Matteo constantly strives to bring the sound of the bandoneon outside the traditional realm of tango music, and his latest project incorporates electronic sounds with a classical ensemble.
