林中光樂團成立於2002年，一群青春的團員們經過了一番壯烈的討論，發現大家身上存有許多共同點--都是台灣藝術大學出來的，並且大家都住在台北這個都市叢林裡，也都深信在這個都市叢林裡，能夠找到溫暖生命的希望之光，這就是林中光的由來。「好人做好音樂給好朋友聽」是林中光簡單的信念。

由於他們是少數執著於傳統音樂創新的樂團，加以團員多為音樂科班出身，他們的崛起很快受到重視。在樂團的編制上，林中光以西方的民謠搖滾樂團為骨，以中國各式傳統樂器及台灣傳統戲曲調式為肉，創作出獨立於主流音樂寫作的派別之外的音樂。

The music of the Gleams is an innovative mix of Western folk music and traditional Taiwanese opera forms, voiced through both traditional Chinese and western instruments. The band members are all professionally trained musicians in Taipei who strive to compose music that is outside the realm of the mainstream.
